Description

Your support will go a long way to help women and children in our community who are fleeing abuse and violence.

Donate to YWCA Peterborough Haliburton via this link. (Please note on the form that you are donating via the WBN Auction)

The COVID-19 crisis has created a toxic combination of increased stress, isolation and job losses that is leading to a dramatic rise in violence. Here and around the world, women’s organizations are reporting that the need for safety and support has increased 30 percent.

The last year has been extremely challenging for women & their families who access YWCA Peterborough Haliburton programs. Violence against women has intensified during the pandemic. Since the lock-downs began, women in Peterborough have reported abuse that is far more serious and complex. We also hear challenging stories and continue to get daily calls or email messages about people struggling to access food, people feeling lonely and scared about the future.

Crossroads Shelter is a warm and welcoming 25 bed safe haven for women and their children in the heart of the city of Peterborough. Every year, we provide more than 8,000 Safe Nights for women and children escaping gender-based violence and abuse.

One Safe Night at YWCA Crossroads Shelter costs $64.65 (beyond what government funding provides) and includes everything a woman or child will need:

  • a warm, private room, nutritious meals, onsite counselling, fresh linens and pajamas, personal care essentials, resources and referrals, post-shelter counselling support,
  •  the tools to build a new life, and more

Our Transition Support Program provides free, confidential support to women who are fleeing abuse or are concerned about the health of their relationship. Support is available by phone, text or by appointment.

In Haliburton County, we provide clinical counselling/therapy, information about housing and income supports assistance navigating the Family and Criminal Court systems and more.

YWCA Haliburton Emergency Rural SafeSpace (HERS) is two bedroom units of temporary housing that are available on an as-needed basis. While staying at HERS, families live independently and have access to support staff 24 hours a day.
